Shaiyyaji of Chitraji    Shaiyyaji of Laalan

Introduction

Shaiyyaji is the word used for Shri Thakorji's bed. In Pushtimarg the preparation of Shaiyyaji is also an important sewa which has to be done with utmost care. When preparing Shaiyyaji for Thakorji the vaishnav must be careful and see that no dusty or pointed particle remain on the place where shriji's swarup is to be placed. Also, the gadiji and takiyaji (pillows) on the shaiyya must always have covers of soft malmal cloth. The takiyas on the shaiyya must be flat so that the they don't interfere with shriji's comfort. The chaadar (blanket) on shaiyyaji also changes according to the change in season, white thin in summer, coloured single in monsoon and rajaai (blanket filled with cotton) in winter. We must bear in mind that even if it is very hot we must always cover shriji fully (we should not think that if we cannot bear the chaadar in summer how can shiriji do it). There are certain points which can be useful to vaishnavs when they prepare the gadiji of theShaiyyaji :

Over and above these things there are different types of shaiyyaji for vaishnavas doing chitra-sewa or laalan-sewa. A brief outline is given regarding the difference in the shaiyyaji for the two types of sewa.

Shaiyyaji of Chitraji

The Shaiyyaji must contain 3 pillows, one big rectangular flat one for shrimastak (head) and two on the sides. The swarup of Chitraji is such that if we keep round pillows the will become a hindrance so vaishanvas who have Chtira-sewa in their houses must take care to have this kind of Gadiji on their shhaiyajis. Some vaishanvas keep one big rectangular takiya (like the one used for shrimastak)at the feet of shriji also, this is optional. The vaishanvas having sewa of Madanmohanji (thaada swarup) must also opt for this type of gadiji.

Shaiyyaji of Laalan

The Shaiyyaji must contain 4 pillows, one big rectangular flat one for shrimastak (head) and three round flat ones, one to keep between the left and right shrihasta (hand)-supporting the right shrihasta, the second one between the left and right shricharan (feet)-to support the right shriacharan and the third one to fill the gap that is left between the first two takiyajis. The vaishanvas doing sewa of Laalan must keep in mind that while putting the swaroop of laalan to sleep (shayan) the right shrihasta must always be above and the left one below, one must never do shayan of laalan with the mukhaarvind (face) facing upwards. This must always be kept in mind.
